Leadership Serminar & Workshop

 
On May 29th, 2006 ‘Democracy Day’ for all Nigerians, a Leadership Seminar & Workshop was organized for all Professionals, Graduates, or Undergraduates and held at the church Gallery, S.S. Mulumba & David Catholic Church Lawanson. The theme Leadership Challenges in our contemporary times – An insight on the Asian Tigers Economies.
 
The events provided all participants leadership exhibited by former Singapore Prime Minister, Lee Kuan Yew, and contribute their own quota to move Nigeria forward. In addition, it global issues in Nigeria, Over 200 guests, including representatives from the public, private and non-profit sectors, youth organizations/societies attended the programme.
 
Mr. Henry Agbebive, who served as the keynote speaker for the occasion, delivered an inspiring speech based on the theme of the day. In addition, Rev. Dr. Moses Iloh, Pastor of Soul Wining Chapel, Yaba, who served as the special quest of honour, contributed on the need for youths’ commitment in nation building (during the workshop session) ... Health Day – Celebrating Good Health In Our Schools

 

Care of the Estranged foundation in collaboration with the Rainbow College Senior High hosted a day for its students (over 200) on 23rd June 2006. more than 250 students and teachers participated in the one-day seminar that was held in the school premises.

 

Health topics covered during the programme include: Chest pains & Asthyma, Teeth and its diseases-causes and prevention, Heart and diseases-care and prevention. This was presented by professionals from the field like Dr. Dorothy Jeff Nnamani (public health specialist) Dr. Dacosta Dentist & A Cardiologist.

HIV/AIDS Seminar
 
Care of the Estranged foundation in collaboration with united friends progressive union presented a talk on the on the ‘impact of HIV/AIDS pandemic’ – to the inmates (i.e. Children and youths) at SOS village Isolo on Sunday 30th July 2006. Over 200 participants including friends and well wishers of the club, youth at the centre; took active part in the event.

3-Days Free Healthcare Delivery Services

 

Care of the Estranged for Social Development in collaboration with Surulere Local Government and Catholic Lay Apostolate Centre, Ebute-Metta hosted a 3-days free healthcare delivery services at Ojuelegba motor park from August 7th-9th, 2006. Over 2, 500 people received free screening treatments, free eyeglasses, free HIV test, free blood Pressure (BP) and blood sugar check free dental check & treatments, free eye check, etc.

 

The theme for the week was “Reaching the unreachable in our Society”

 

Guest Speaker & Special guests of honour includes:

1. Lagos State Commissioner for Health - Dr. Tola Kasali, who was ably     represented by Dr. Dawodu from Lagos State Ministry of health

 

2. Director General, PROJECT FOR human Development (PHD) – Engr. Jerry    Okwuosa

 

3. Director General, NAFDAC – Prof. Dora Akunyili, who was ably represented by Mrs. Olalade Alabi Chief Coordinator, Drug Abuse & Control, NAFDAC

 

4. Founder/CEO LEAP AFRICA – Mrs. Ndidi Nwuneli, who was ably    represented by Uju Akonwu.

 

5. Supervisor for Health, Surulere LG -Hon. Kunle Akinsehinwa.

 

6. Sector Head for Public Education, FRSC Lagos State Command –Comm.    Akinnusoye.

 

7. The CEO of Rely Supply –Pharmacist Fayo Williams Who also donated a    first aid kit to the organization.

Aids Awareness And Leadership Concert

 

Care of the Estranged foundation held an Aids Awareness and leadership concert with theme: “You and HIV/AIDS strengthening the participation and empowerment strategies for women and youth against the pandemic in Nigeria”, on Saturday 25th November at the conference/banquet hall of National theatre Iganmu, Lagos.

 

The concert was a package of fun for all participants. The messages of the recently concluded World Aids Conference delivered through the seminar sessions, choreography drama, songs presentation by artistes, cultural dances, and the raffle draw.

 

The gifts won during the raffle draw include: -

1. Generator Set - First Price

2. An LG DVD player with 5 games - 2nd Price

3. An LG Standing Fan - 3rd Price

4. 10 Consolation prices of a book on “Sustainability” produced b DFID & British Council and an alternative light source (uses batteries) were also given to the runner –us.

 

The occasion paraded special guests and events speakers like:

- Chief Segun Olusola - Founder/ Patron African Refuges Foundation

- Dr. E. I. B. Okechukwu - Director General, Action Family Foundation

- Barr. Ndidi Bowei - Executive Director, international Centre for Environment Halth and Development.

- Mrs. Ekoh - Teens Health Initiative

- Mrs. Chinwe Agbakoba - Reach the Children, Coordinator

 

The Core messages passed includes:

1.A-Stands for Abstinence
  B-Stands for be faithful to an uninfected spouse
  C-Stands for Conduct
  D-Stands for Desist from sharing sharp objects, toothbrushes & getting  transfused with unscreened blood.
  E-Stands for Empowerment of women and youth

 

All participants were encouraged to adopt the above strategies in order to empower themselves and others against the pandemic spread in Nigeria.
